I was born in January 1953 on a farm which is called 'Tweespruit',between Stellenbosch and Koelenhof, in the Western Cape,South Africa. My mother was a Dutch descendent, and my father a coloured.
I matriculated from Salt River High School in 1972,obtained my L.Th degree in theology at the age of thirty four years from London Bible College and obtained my B.Sc degree in microbiology from the University of Stellenbosch at the age of thirty six years.
As a young high school teacher in the middle 70s,I was involved in the freedom struggle, opposing the 'apartheid' regime of P.W.Botha.During this time I was detained under the Internal Security Act on a number of occasions.I had a dream that my people would one day be free from oppression and an inferior existance that enforced the perception upon us that we were inferior to our oppressors. For this dream I was prepared to sacrafice my freedom, family and life.
